Discount Calculator
Find the price after a discount, the discount percentage or the original price. Add a second discount if needed.
How a discount is calculated
The discounted price equals the original price multiplied by (1 − discount ÷ 100). The saving is the difference between the two prices, and the discount percentage shows what share of the original price you save.
Discounted price = Price × (1 − Discount ÷ 100)
Discount, % = (Price − Discounted price) ÷ Price × 100
Original price = Discounted price ÷ (1 − Discount ÷ 100)
Two discounts in a row do not add up: the second one applies to the already reduced price. Discounts of 20% and 10% give a total of 28%, not 30%. The formula for two discounts:
Price after two discounts = Price × (1 − s₁ ÷ 100) × (1 − s₂ ÷ 100)
The calculator does the discount arithmetic; take promotion terms, promo codes and taxes into account separately.
Discount calculation examples
Example 1 — 20% off. An item costs 2,500 UAH with a 20% discount. Discounted price = 2,500 × 0.8 = 2,000 UAH, you save 500 UAH.
Example 2 — two discounts in a row. Price 1,000 UAH, 20% off, then another 10%. After the first discount 800 UAH, after the second 720 UAH. Total discount 28%.
Example 3 — find the discount percentage. The item used to cost 1,200 UAH and now costs 900 UAH. Discount = (1,200 − 900) ÷ 1,200 × 100 = 25%.
Example 4 — find the original price. You paid 900 UAH with a 25% discount. Original price = 900 ÷ 0.75 = 1,200 UAH.
FAQ about discounts
How do I calculate 20% off a price?
Multiply the price by 0.8. For example, 2,500 UAH × 0.8 = 2,000 UAH, and the discount amount is 500 UAH.
Why are two discounts not equal to their sum?
The second discount is calculated from the already reduced price, not the original. So 20% and 10% give 28%, not 30%.
How do I find out how many percent cheaper an item became?
Subtract the new price from the old one, divide by the old price and multiply by 100. The “Discount percentage” mode does this for you.
How do I find the price before a discount?
Divide the discounted price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). Choose the “Original price” mode and enter the discounted price and the percentage.
