How Base64 encoding works
This tool encodes and decodes UTF-8 text only. Text becomes safe Base64 ASCII characters that can be used in links, JSON, or CSS.

Decoding does the reverse — it restores the original text from a Base64 string. The encoder correctly handles UTF-8, so Cyrillic text and special characters aren't corrupted when encoding and decoding back.

FAQ about Base64
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is just a way of encoding data as text, not encryption. Anyone can decode a Base64 string back to the original text, so it shouldn't be used to protect passwords or sensitive information.
Why do I see garbled characters after decoding?
This usually means the input Base64 string is truncated, contains extra spaces or line breaks, or is not UTF-8 text.
Does the site store the text I enter?
No, encoding and decoding happen locally in your browser without sending any data to a server.
